Challenge: How do I get bar code labels on otics, ophthalmics, inhalers, syringes, ampules and small quantities of unit dose oral solids?

For facilities that have implemented a Bedside Point-of-Care application or are preparing to implement, all items to be used at the patient's bedside require a barcode. Several types and forms of medications do not come with a barcode from the manufacturer at the unit dose level. Whether you're a highly automated facility with robots, carousels and packaging systems or a small facility that packages and labels everything by hand there is the challenge of labeling the "odd items" and short runs.

You're scratching your head trying to figure out how to label a new medication in the pharmacy, a non-formulary medication, a high alert medication, a chemotherapy medication or medication that poses allergy risks.

  • What do I use to package just 10 tablets?
  • Do I run these through my packaging system or strip packager?
  • My equipment doesn’t handle the "odd items" so what is available for labeling?

Solutions: Health Care Logistics offers a wide range of solutions to help with your barcode labeling and packaging needs.

For oral solid tablets and capsules choose from our many sizes and styles of 1 year, 6 month or 30 day blister packaging. Rectangular, Round and condensed blister cavities are available for your needs. Use our condensed blisters to conserve space in your automated dispensing cabinet drawers or dispensing mechanism.

For labeling otics, ophthalmics, inhalers, syringes, ampules and other odd items utilize our Flag & Receipt labels. Laser, thermal and pre-printed message options are available. These labels have a clear tail so they do not cover markings or important information and are great for labeling all those hard to label items.

Try our affordable and easy to use WaspLabeler dbTracker labeling software to print any label in your pharmacy. This stand alone software includes the full NDC database and allows the NDC# and drug name to automatically populate on your label by a simple scan of the stock container barcode. The electronic packaging log allows a range of reports to be generated for your records. We provide free templates for all labels HCL sells taking the setup time out of the equation.

If you're interested in printing just one label at a time try our Wasp® Desktop Thermal Printer or Zebra® Thermal Printer and one of our thermal label options. We have unit dose blister package labels in thermal format so you can print and package one dose at a time.

As you can see our software, packaging, labeling and printer options are practical and easy to implement solutions to your small package runs and unique item bar code challenges
